mat cutting

what's involved
A mat isn't just a border around a picture — it's the air a work needs to breathe on the wall rather than suffocate against the glass. The wrong colour or width can spoil even a good piece; the right one turns it into a gallery presentation. We cut mats to a precise edge from archival acid-free board — over 200 shades, single, double, fabric and museum-grade.
what you get
200+ shades
White, cream, coloured, black — over 200 options. We find the one true shade that lifts the work instead of competing with it.
Acid-free board
Archival mats from pH-neutral materials. No yellowing or brown spots over time — the work stays as it is today.
Fabric mats
Linen, velvet, silk. For a luxurious presentation and a tactile impression plain board can't give.
Double mats
Two layers with a contrasting reveal add depth and gently emphasise the work. A detail you feel before you can name it.
Museum grade
For collection pieces and valuable works we offer 100% cotton mats of the highest archival class — the safest choice there is.
Precise 45° cut
Computer-controlled cutting. A clean edge, exact dimensions, symmetrical borders — no hand tremor, no crooked bevel.

questions and answers
Why does matting matter?
A mat separates the work from the glass, protects it from moisture and gives it visual space in which to stand out. On valuable works it's practically essential — without it the paper touches the glass over time and is damaged.
What's the difference between an ordinary and an acid-free mat?
Ordinary board contains acids that cause yellowing and brown spots over time — and these transfer onto the work itself. An acid-free mat keeps the picture in its original state for decades.
How much does matting cost?
We give the price upfront and with no obligation — it's based on the size, the type of board and the finish (single, double, fabric). We always offer an option that fits the budget too.
Do you cut non-standard shapes?
Yes. Oval, circular and multiple openings for several photographs in one frame — we guide the cut by computer, so even an unusual shape comes out symmetrical and clean.
