framing embroidery and textile pieces

Přísečná near Český Krumlov · 25 min from Č. Budějovice · Free consultation

what's involved

You put weeks of patient work into that embroidery — and bad framing can warp it, press it against the glass and let it grow mould. Textile needs a completely different approach than a picture: stretching without distortion, distance from the glass, and materials that won't harm the fibres. That's why we hand-stretch every embroidery, tapestry and cross-stitch onto an acid-free board, without glue and with respect for the direction of the threads.

what you get

Stretching without glue

We stretch the embroidery by hand, with stainless pins or stitching. No glue on the textile — the fibres stay untouched.

Acid-free board

A backing board of pH-neutral material. No yellowing and no embrittlement of the fabric over time.

Distance from the glass that protects

A spacer bar keeps the embroidery a safe distance from the glass. The textile's structure can breathe and there's no risk of mould.

UV glass against fading

Tru Vue museum glass protects the colours of the threads from fading. With older and colourful embroidery it makes a real difference.

Even large tapestries

We handle large-format tapestries and wall hangings, with a special hanging system sized to their weight.

Care for damaged textiles

For damaged embroidery we recommend the right approach — cleaning, consolidation, conservation. We never start without thinking it through.

how it works

01

You bring the embroidery. We assess its condition, dimensions and propose a stretching method.

02

We choose the frame, mat and glass. For embroidery we always recommend a spacer bar.

03

We hand-stretch the embroidery onto an acid-free board and fit it into the frame.

04

We hand over the finished piece and advise on placement — embroidery doesn't like direct sun.

questions and answers

How do you stretch embroidery?

By hand, with stainless pins or stitching onto an acid-free board. We never glue directly onto the textile — the piece can be safely removed at any time.

Can you frame an old tapestry too?

Yes. With historic textiles we proceed especially carefully, and for the most valuable pieces we recommend a textile conservator before we do anything.

Why does embroidery need distance from the glass?

Textile fibres have volume and structure. Direct contact with the glass flattens them, and damp under the glass can cause mould. A spacer bar prevents that.

How much does framing embroidery cost?

We quote upfront and with no commitment — it's based on size and the complexity of the stretching. You'll get a figure at the in-person consultation.
