certificate of mounting — proof of care for your work

what's involved
With a valuable work it isn't enough that it's well framed — you have to be able to prove it. The certificate of mounting is an official document that describes exactly how the piece was fixed, which materials we used and what conditions the frame provides. For museums and galleries it's a standard requirement. For insurers it's evidence that the work is properly protected — and often the key to better cover. For you it's the certainty of knowing exactly what holds your piece together, and that anyone in future can safely dismantle it. We issue it to international conservation standards, with every museum mounting and retrospectively too.
what you get
A complete record of the work
The certificate lists every material, the fixing method, glass type, backing and date of mounting. No guessing what's inside the frame — it's all in black and white.
Better insurance terms
Insurers require proof of how a work is stored. The certificate demonstrates a conservation standard — and for valuable pieces it can be the difference between insurable and not.
A recognised museum standard
We work to international conservation standards. The certificate is documentation that galleries and institutions accept without further questions.
Certification, even retrospectively
Had your work framed by us earlier? We'll inspect the mounting and issue the certificate after the fact. Nothing needs to be redone.
Always reversible techniques
Every mounting is done so the work can be safely removed at any time without damage. The certificate confirms it — a future restorer will thank you.
Printed and digital version
You receive the certificate on paper and digitally for your records. Ready to present to an insurer, a buyer or a gallery.

questions and answers
Who is the certificate of mounting for?
For anyone who wants proof of how a work is protected. Museums, galleries, insurers, collectors — but also private owners of valuable works, family heirlooms or pieces they plan to sell or pass on.
Can I get a certificate for a work framed elsewhere?
If you bring the work to us, we'll inspect the mounting. If it meets conservation standards, we'll issue the certificate. If not, we'll propose adjustments and issue it afterwards — so you hold documentation that genuinely means something.
What does the certificate contain?
A description of the work, dimensions, a list of materials used (backing, mount, glass, frame), the fixing method, the date of mounting and the name of the mounter. Complete documentation that institutions and insurers accept.
How much does the certificate cost, and is it needed for insurance?
We prepare it as part of every museum mounting; on its own we quote up front by scope. Many insurers require it for valuable works or offer better terms with it — for a higher-value piece we warmly recommend it.
