museum framing — care at an institutional level
Přísečná near Český Krumlov · 25 min from Č. Budějovice · Free consultation
what's involved
For a piece you truly care about, it isn't about how the frame looks — it's about whether in thirty years it yellows, fades and grows brown spots, or still looks the way it does today. Museum framing isn't a marketing slogan but a precisely defined set of techniques and materials: archival acid-free backings and mats, Tru Vue Museum Glass with up to 99% UV filtering, reversible mounting and a sealed environment inside the frame. We hold to these standards for museums, galleries, collectors and anyone unwilling to leave it to chance.
what you get
Acid-free materials
Everything touching the work — backings, mats, tapes — is acid-free and lignin-free. No yellowing or brown spots, however many years pass.
Tru Vue Museum Glass
A UV filter absorbs up to 99% of harmful radiation; the anti-reflective coating renders the glass almost invisible. Colours don't fade and you see the work, not a glare.
Reversible mounting
We hold the work with techniques that can be safely removed at any time. No permanent intervention in the original — no problem inherited by a future conservator.
Sealed microclimate
The back of the frame is closed against dust and insects. The work has stable conditions, not the swings that damage it over time.
Certificate of mounting
Every museum mounting comes with a certificate describing the materials and techniques — a document for insurance and for a future conservator.
30 years at one bench
Third-generation framers, thousands of works framed for museums, galleries and private collectors. We know what each technique and material can bear.
how it works
You bring the work in person or we arrange collection. We carry out an initial assessment of its condition and material needs.
We propose a mounting solution — type of backing, mat, glass and method of fixing. We explain and justify every choice.
We carry out the mounting in the controlled environment of our workshop. We document every step.
We hand over the finished work with a certificate of mounting. For institutions we arrange transport and installation too.

questions and answers
Who is museum framing for?
For anyone who cares about a work enough to want maximum protection — museums, galleries, collectors, but also owners of family heirlooms or valuable photographs. A work's value need not be only financial.
What's the difference between museum and ordinary framing?
Museum framing uses exclusively acid-free materials, UV-filtering Tru Vue glass and reversible mounting. Ordinary framing guarantees none of this — and on a valuable work the difference only shows years later, when it's usually too late.
How much does museum framing cost?
The main price difference is the Museum Glass and the acid-free materials. On smaller formats it's a surcharge of a few hundred crowns; on large ones it can be more. We always offer a gentler option too and quote the price upfront.
Will you issue a certificate of mounting?
Yes. The certificate states a description of the work, a list of materials used, the mounting technique and the date — it serves as proof for insurance and for future conservators.
