what's involved

Wood has a warmth and character no other material can match — which is exactly why a wooden frame is the most versatile choice for anything on the wall. Oil painting, watercolour, photograph, mirror: wood handles them all. Narrow minimalist profiles and wide gallery mouldings, natural surfaces and stained, lacquered or patinated finishes. We choose from over 2,000 wooden Larson-Juhl profiles and cut and assemble every frame by hand in the workshop in Přísečná near Český Krumlov — with a precision you'll see in the finished join.

what you get

Over 2,000 profiles to choose from

The Larson-Juhl catalogue covers it all — from Scandinavian minimalism to rustic patina and gallery finishes. We always find the right one for your work and interior.

The warmth of a natural material

Wood has a grain, a scent and a character that neither plastic nor metal replaces. A frame that never looks cold on the wall — it belongs to both the work and the room.

Works on anything

Oil paintings, watercolours, photographs, prints, graphics, diplomas and mirrors. One material that holds its own in every role — from the bedroom to the gallery.

A finish matched to the work

Natural, stained, lacquered, waxed, patinated, gilded. We match the finish to the character of the work and the interior's palette — not to whatever happens to be in stock.

Joins without gaps

Mitred cuts to tenths of a millimetre, joins without squeezed-out glue. We retouch the corners until invisible — the frame reads as a single piece.

Pairs with any glass

We set wooden profiles with anything from standard glass through anti-reflective to Tru Vue Museum Glass with up to 99% UV filtering. You choose the protection; we advise.

questions and answers

What wood are the frames made from?

Larson-Juhl profiles are made from lime, beech, oak and other solid timber. The specific species depends on the chosen profile — from fine lime to characterful oak, we'll advise what suits your work best.

Can you make a wooden frame for a mirror too?

Yes. Wooden frames for mirrors are among our most frequent commissions. We make any size — from a small hand mirror to full-wall.

How do I care for a wooden frame, and are they pricier than aluminium?

An occasional wipe with a dry soft cloth is enough — Larson-Juhl profiles have a quality finish and need no special care. The price? Simple wooden mouldings come out similar to aluminium; wide hand-patinated profiles cost more. We quote up front and without obligation.

How long does a wooden frame take?

A standard commission takes 7–14 working days. In a hurry? We can arrange an express turnaround by agreement — tell us your deadline and we'll find a way.
